The three-row midsize SUV has become an incredibly popular class of vehicle in this decade, and the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is the automaker’s latest swing at competing in this category. The Palisade which launches in the summer of 2019 – is set to replace the Santa Fe XL, a vehicle that was outclassed by the competition. Hyundai is aiming to prevent that from happening again, and the 2020 Palisade is quite an impressive automobile.

It is far larger than its predecessor, it is three inches longer, more than three-and-a-half inches wider, and adds a full four inches between it’s front and rear wheels. That increased size is no small thing; it makes the cabin much roomier. It has 18 cubic feet of cargo spacebehind the third row, and when the second row is folded back, it has 46 cubic feet of room, not to mention that people who are at least six feet tall can fit comfortably inside the cabin.

Push-button access to the third row by being able to fold down the second row offers a level of roominess within the cabin that puts this SUV towards the top of its class. The interior has a real air of luxury with quilted leather and perforated seats. Beyond a roomy interior, there is a lot more to like about the 2020 Palisade, most notably what you want in an SUV, a powerful engine and top-tier performance. It will feature a 3.8-liter V6 engine capable of 291 horsepower, 262 pound-feet of torque and it will have an eight speed automatic transmission. The Palisade will feature 18-inch wheels standard, but also have 20-inch wheels available as well. There are three selectable drive modes: Sport,Eco, and Smart modes. Smart is just a mixture between the two in terms of powertrain, gear selection, and fuel consumption.

Features

  • LED daytime running lights and LED turn-signal mirror
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) w/ Pedestrian Detection
  • Apple CarPlay and Android
  • 10.3-inch central touchscreen
  • Driver Talk system projects the driver’s voice into the second and third-row speakers

The technology inside the 2020 Palisade is quite impressive and shows how committed Hyundai is with trying to make this a high level entry within the midsize SUV class. It has seven available USB ports,Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a 10.3-inch central touchscreen, and a Bluetooth connection that supports two different phone connections, one for making calls and one for audio streaming. The Driver Talk system projects the driver’s voice into the second and third-row speakers, allowing both the front passenger and driver to converse directly to the back rows with clarity. A sleep mode for those same speakers will enable you to cancel the noise from the speakers in the event you and your front passenger want to listen to music while your middle and back-row passengers take a nap or may not be in the mood for music. Safe Exit Assist sounds in case passengers are opening the door as a car is coming down the road, to prevent damage to the vehicle or injury to one of your passengers. The other tech features in this automobile continue to highlight safety and fun, and many come standard with the base trim of the 2020 Palisade.

Hyundai-Palisade-Interior

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade is the right type of successor to replace the Santa Fe XL, but it is not a perfect vehicle. It is far larger than its predecessor, as mentioned earlier, but bigger is not always better and along with a V6 engine, is reduced engine performance worth a bigger, less fuel-efficient design than a standard compact V4 SUV would be? That is a personal choice, but it is a knock on this vehicle. There are very few other knocks to speak of on this SUV, and it is a much-needed upgrade in this category for Hyundai. The price tag is the biggest mystery about this vehicle since it is not going to be released until the summer; the price point has not yet been finalized. That said, it is not expected to be much more expensive than what the Santa Fe XL’s starting price was, around $32,000 for the base model. The 2020 Hyundai Palisade should not be much more than that, and that will give it a great value when it is available for lease or purchase later this year.
